MEMORIAL
BISHOP MICHAEL CHANG MEMORIAL HALL AND YOUTH CENTER
In order to honour the first Anglican bishop of Fukien Province, the government of Bishop Michael’s hometown in cooperation with the local Christian community have commissioned INUCE to transform an abandoned electrical substation into a memorial hall with adjacent educational facilities and youth hostel. The buildings are formally conceived as religious sculptures, reflecting in their characteristic shapes the “ups and downs” and the tormented moments this remarkable historical figure experienced in his life. The use of bamboo as main material is inspired by the town’s name “Feizhu” - translated as “Flying Bamboo”.
