URBANISM
BETWEEN THE TOWERS: URBAN RENEWAL IN SHANGHAI
The last large Lilong neighborhood of Shanghai, situated in the north of the Suzhou River remains to be redeveloped. This thesis proposes the redefinition of its role within the changing urban environment not only through the obvious implementation of spaces for high-end retail, gastronomy and housing within newly built structures, but foremost through the preservation and integration of local culture, traditional retail, and historical architecture, allowing it to keep and develop a strong identity of its own, transforming it into a vivid part of Shanghai!
